What Makes Us Different

What makes us different

What is “Nature Cure”? Why should you be interested? Why would you want to know more about it? What makes it different from the plethora of other “alternatives” available?

Let us offer you a few explanations:

Firstly, Nature Cure, the name might seem a bit misleading. As practitioners we have spent many hours discussing what could be a better name – we have failed over many decades to find anything more suitable!  So, how does nature, cure? Well, your body is more than capable of healing itself if you give it the right opportunities. Nature Cure – or Naturopathy – as practiced and taught by the Thomson-Kingston trained practitioners can change the way you treat your body, change the way you react and respond when you get ill and change the way you listen to your body.  Stop, look and listen.

Quieting the warning sign is not a cure - it is suppression - Nature Cure Scotland

Quieting the warning sign is not a cure – it is suppression

Normally, if you get sick, there will be symptoms and you will consult a doctor, they will offer a diagnosis and write you a prescription thereby discharge their responsibility. The medicines or drugs they are encouraging you to take will knock those symptoms on their heads and silence the warning signs. If you have symptoms, these are signposts to what your body is trying to tell you. If you have pain or discomfort it is because your body is out of kilter. Quietening the warning signs is not a cure, it is suppression. You might feel “normal” again but there will probably also be a few side effects.

So now you are back to “normal”, the same “normal” that made you ill in the first place. But there was no questioning of “why” you got ill, what could have brought your body to the point where it needed to make an extraordinary effort. Why it stopped you in your tracks, when you had so much to do, and why you were obliged to take some rest, that you didn’t have time to take.

We prefer not to label diseases but view them as healing crises. So, what is a healing crisis? We understand it as an extra effort by your body to “detox”, to get rid of the build-up of metabolic wastes that your body has not had time to deal with day to day. These extra efforts usually manifest as acute illnesses.

The Acute disease suppressed today with medicines and remedies becomes the chronic disease of tomorrow

In the normal course of the day your body will deal very efficiently with waste from your cells, but over time there can be a build-up of wastes that haven’t been cleared, instead they have been stored for future attention.  When the waste situation gets too bad the body needs to make an extra effort to clear it. This can result in fever, coughs, colds and skin eruptions. These are the annoying, often painful, sometimes distressing, symptoms that over the counter medicines and prescription drugs are expected to stop. Stopping this extra effort means that the wastes are not eliminated but kept stored. When there is enough waste clogging your system they start to affect your day to day living by making you feel under parr. Taken to the worst case, these wastes can form tumours and growths. The acute disease suppressed today becomes the chronic disease of tomorrow.

Treating a healing crisis properly is an opportunity for your body to clear up stored wastes, this means that for a few days of discomfort you and your body get the huge benefit of a cleaner system in the future. The fever is a bonfire for the body, a very efficient extra effort if it is allowed to get on with it. Having to “give in” and go to bed for a few days with very limited food intake is a small price to pay for a happier and more efficient body afterwards. Nature Cure is not a quick fix. But giving your body the respect it deserves will stand you in very good stead in the long run. Plus, there are no nasty side effects.

It is our attitude to illness, and what it really means, that sets us apart. We encourage and guide you, the patient, to take control of your own health. This could be the real primary health care if only it could be more widely adopted, because by keeping yourself fit and healthy, only in emergencies will you need the NHS!  The miracle drug today is too often the disappointment, with added side effects, tomorrow.

The Nature Cure Approach:

Given the right conditions, our bodies can heal themselves - Nature Cure Scotland

Given the right conditions, our bodies can heal themselves

  • We see you as an individual and look at every aspect of your life believing that each one is as significant as the other.
  • It is our observation that persistently suppressing the symptoms of an acute condition results in chronic illness in the long term.
  • We regard the symptoms of your illness as indicators to be carefully observed and understood, not suppressed. We look for causes, and try to recognise why you have become ill, or find what might be standing in the way of you getting better.
  • Fundamentally, illness or disease needs to be understood, not ‘got rid of’!
  • Some symptoms can be uncomfortable, disabling or downright frightening and our role is to support, guide and reassure you, as you work towards regaining your health.
  • Given the right conditions our bodies have an incredible ability to heal themselves and our approach covers all aspects of your life. We will work with you to address whatever is making you ill.
  • We do not make promises and this is not a quick fix option; there will be no gimmicky gadgets or packaged remedies to take home with you.
  • We support and we teach; we do not prescribe.

Get healthy, stay healthy, enjoy life and live it to your full potential.
